Odo 52,391 · fog, thick
Lay-by, two in the morning
Pulled in to let the fog go past. It has not gone past. Writing this by the map light, which is the only light in the van that does what the switch says.
The Ninefathom boat is the 06:10, if it runs. The man on the terminal phone said, and we are quoting, “it will or it won’t.” We have left the camera running on the dash in case something happens. Nothing will.

Odo 52,212 · rain, then more rain
The ice machine
Motel on the coast road. The ice machine on the second floor makes a noise like a kick drum left out in the rain, every forty seconds, all night. We taped it on the handheld. It may be on the record by the time you read this, which will be a hard thing to explain on the radio.
The odometer went past 52,000 somewhere after the tea hut at mile marker 212. Nobody was awake for it but the van.

Marrow Point, the Ice House
Forty-one people and a dog under the bar. The dog stayed for the encore, which is more than the sound engineer did.
Sold six tapes and one T-shirt, and swapped a set list for chips. Fair.

Gullhaven, upstairs at the Fish Market
Load-in was down a slipway. We carried the bass amp past two men mending a net, who said, without looking up, that it would not float.
Played Deckhand Radio twice, because the first time the harbour master’s radio came through the PA. The second time was better. The first time was more interesting.

Port Aven, the Anchor Room
First night of the tour, and a home crowd, which means half the room went to school with us and the other half taught there.
Somebody at the back held a ferry timetable up during the chorus of Last Boat Out. We have decided it was support.
